Family Self-Sufficiency

Empowers individuals to take control of their lives so they may become independent, productive members of their community. FSS provides comprehensive case management, counseling, educational and employment planning, to help income eligible clients to reach their personal and professional goals.
Eligibility
Families or individuals who are currently receiving a Housing Choice Voucher rental subsidy from the Housing Authority of Elgin must:
- Live in Kane County
- Be listed as head of household for purposes of income eligibility or rent
Families who are not receiving a Section 8 rental subsidy must:
- Have at least one child below age 18 living in the household
- Live in KaneCounty
- Have a projected yearly income at or below the income guidelines for their family size
OR - Show grant eligibility on entry (eligibility varies by grant)
